The economic situation is marked by the extreme poverty of the inhabitants whom the Government beguiles on a daily basis with the promise that only exploitation of the country's petroleum resources can save them from their present poverty, while endeavouring to conceal the disastrous manner in which the Chadian State has managed its finances for years.
