According to a document prepared on the basis of the results of a survey conducted over a period of three years or so by the World Bank in cooperation with indigenous associations, the individuals surveyed listed the following criteria: their family origin, their Indian roots, the fact that they were keepers of traditions and customs, their physical features, and the knowledge that they were Indians.
